Are you a NYJC student’s parent or a current NYJC student looking for 1 to 1 tuition for one or more of the subjects (H2 Physics, Chemistry, Math and Economics)?
I speak from the perspective of an experienced teacher who has provided 1 to 1 tuition to many NYJC students over the years. I can say with confidence that having 1 to 1 tuition right from the start of JC1 is highly recommended for your child or you to score like the following ex-student of mine below.

Profiles of NYJC Students
I am able to help NYJC students reach their fullest potential through my coaching because of the understanding I have for NYJC students.
Basically, there are 2 main types of Nanyang Junior College (NYJC) students that I have worked with so far.
In an average NYJC classroom setting, the learning environment can be quite competitive and fast paced. This is because you have a significant number of high ability learners within the class.
The first type of NYJC students will struggle as they are the ones who are slightly slower in learning. They often feel inferior compared to their peers in the same class. Firstly, their peers are able to solve questions that they are unable to do so. Secondly, their peers can understand the teacher’s explanation much faster.
If you are such a student, these issues can be easily addressed with 1 to 1 tuition. This is because we will run through the topics before the school starts teaching. Hence, you will have a headstart to the topic, allowing you to keep up with your peers in class.
The second type of NYJC students is the ones who are usually involved in sports CCAs, are fast paced learners and generally quite confident in their knowledge and abilities.
This may be unexpected but this type of students want 1 to 1 tuition too! This is because they understand clearly their own weaknesses such as being careless in their working.
If you are such a student, having a 1 to 1 tuition teacher can constantly remind you of your weaknesses. Also, you are generally not very patient so you want the most efficient methods to learn a topic and solve questions, that only a 1 to 1 tutor is able to provide.
Useful information for NYJC students
For NYJC 4H2 students, note that you need an average C grade for your 4 H2 subjects in the JC1 promotional examination. Otherwise, you are expected to downgrade one of the subjects to H1. Source
